Care Homes

After graduating from the University of Chichester in 2009, Sarah set up her own business, playing her violin and entertaining in care homes.
Since then, she has visited nearly 100 care, nursing and retirement homes, as well as day centres and similar organisations.
She began locally in the Brighton area, and has recently started to expand her travels further afield.
She is completely in love with the work she is fortunate enough to do and is keen to continue working in this environment!

Although Sarah trained classically, she also performs a variety of other styles, including jigs and reels, show tunes, popular songs, sing-along songs, film themes and much more, ensuring that the music she plays is right for the audience to which she is performing – and that her audience are enjoying themselves!

Sarah’s work…

There are many challenges to entertaining in a healthcare environment, and one in particular is to ensure that she entertains in a way that is appropriate for the type of group she is visiting.
As Sarah regularly plays for audiences with dementia, disabilities, hearing or sight impairments, old age, or simply resting at retirement homes, she appreciates that every group and every audience member is different, and requires different forms of entertainment and attention.

Sarah has enjoyed learning that some groups prefer specific styles of music, some enjoy a complete mixture, and others have a different frame of mind every time she visits. As she gets to know a group, she can develop her understanding of their preferences.
The use of her carefully chosen backing tracks also helps to enhance her performance by really setting the mood of each piece!

Sarah Milner - Care Home 3

Sarah has played at many different events within the care environment, such as a ‘Ladies’ Day’ celebration, an Olympics 2012 ‘Opening Ceremony’, Strawberry Tea Parties, Birthdays, St.Patrick’s Day events, Summer parties, and most popularly Christmas celebrations, in which she loves to encourage residents, family members and staff to join in with their favourite songs and carols!
These special events are carefully considered, and Sarah loves to ensure she can bring that extra special touch, by playing appropriate and often themed music to suit the event. Sarah also visits several homes and centres on a regular basis throughout the year simply for some light entertainment.

In the past few years, she has had some fantastic experiences, met some incredible people and formed some wonderful friendships.

Sarah is always looking to visit new places, and would be delighted to expand even further.
She is happy to play to groups or even visit residents in their individual rooms.

If you would like to make a booking or enquire about prices, please contact Sarah and she will be happy to discuss any details with you, and even organise a trial session.
